Port-A-Bach
Bring Your Home With You Anywhere Port-A-Bach Container Living Pod by Stelier Workshop
Atelier Workshop in New Zealand has created one of the most interesting living pods yet. Made from a standard shipping container, it is intended as a vacation cabin that folds up and locks completely inside the container for excellent security.

Atelier Workshop’s Port-a-Bach shipping container home might just make standard RVs obsolete. A veritable home on-the-go, you can roll into place, fold down one side, make your bed and be right at home. As long as you have some property, of course.
Taking the portability of shipping container housing to an altogether new level of portability, this 20-foot container has been outfitted with an entire studio apartment, including a kitchen and a full bath with a composting toilet. It also has a “non-invasive foundation”, which allows for plenty of flexibility in terms of ground placement.
One wall of the container lowers to create a deck, which can be enclosed in tent or screen to double the usable space. Likewise the old contain door opens and can be enclosed with snap on tent material to offer enclosed bunk space for sleeping two, while a double bed folds down from the wall to allow sleeping of four.

While Atelier says the Port-a-Bach is made for 2 adults and 2 children (with an “interior fabric screen system [that] gives the versatility of creating rooms within the large open living space”), it seems to me to be a wee bit small for a family of four. Folding bunk beds aside, of course. It also offers little in terms of privacy, which means you’ll probably want to send your children out to play while you shower — and if the weather is bad, you all had better enjoy each other’s company. But if used solely for road trips, you could probably make it work.
Overcrowding aside, Port-a-Bach is small, energy efficient, designed to be environmentally clean and easy to hook up to services. Now all you need to make your vacation a success is an 18-wheeler or a helicopter. Bon voyage!

Hurricane Proof ?
Question : I read that an Aloha Block Home is hurricane/typhoon proof. Is that true?
Answer : Yes, an Aloha Block Home, either single unit or multiple units connected, can withstand 100 MPH winds on a foundation, or 175 MPH winds when easily anchored with pylons -- extremely solid in Tornados or Hurricanes.

Technology Applications and Advancements
The Aloha Block Module technology and process is derived from mature manufacturing and supply chains that already provide a parallel industry with on average two million similar sized units per year.
Structure
The Aloha Block Module is made of High Tensile corrosion resistant steel, the walls, floors and roof construction insulated in excess of current building regulations for sound and thermal performance.
The base units for the system are a range of self-supporting modules, available in a variety of dimensions. The modules are designed to stack in several configurations to allow almost limitless combinations. The sizes available allow designers to lock, or nest modules: the greater the quantity being nested, the greater the strength and stability of the resulting structure. The potential for multi-storey stacking is currently 6 storeys but is capable of over 20 storeys.
Assembling
Assembling is simple, fast, safe and on standard foundation systems. The design allows for rapid erection with low-tech, fail safe locking mechanisms. The units are completely weatherproof so that interiors remain protected throughout the assembly process. Modules can also be fully fitted out before arrival on site.
Cladding
The resulting structure provides support for external and common parts, such as cladding, roof systems, stairwells, corridors, balconies, communal spaces and so on. A system of standard construction industry connections allow interconnecting components and fittings to interface with foundations, cladding systems, roofing, balconies and corridor units are compatible for a perfect fit. The Aloha Block Module is compatible with current cladding support technology such as brick support and cladding rails.
Internal Fittings & Fixtures
The Aloha Block Module is supplied insulated and lined ready for fit out to the customers requirements.
