The design proposal features 7, 20 foot containers with a great room facing the ocean,two lofts above for the kids and a master bedroom facing the back of the property.
Out the master bedroom deck is a hot tub which is standing on a piling with a fireplace at the ground level so the water can be heated naturally by firewood. A circulating pump keeps things cozy.

WelcomeHome Prefab Container Home Kit
Another Shipping Container Concept Home. This one is by Zigloo a firm out of Canada. We have covered some of their designs in the past, including a really cool Floating Ocean City. This concept design is made from three shipping containers, to create a 800 sq. ft. home in the country side or an urban infill. The architect says he would like to deliver these home at around $150 per sq ft. (via zigloo.ca)
The WelcomeHome totals 800 square feet on a small footprint. Perfect for a get-away cottage, a quick guest home, an environmental infill solution. The design lends itself perfectly to an off-the-grid solution utilizing wind power, solar power, solar hot water, passive air circulation organic spray-foam insulation and a green roof.
WelcomeHome kit will cost USD $12,000 plus shipping to the destination to your choice. With the foundations, standard services, and interior finishes, my aim is to make this kit a $120,000 quick build solution ($150/sqft).
The upper floor plan has 2 bedrooms (one overlooking the entry, and one with a private balcony) and 3 piece bathroom (shower).
The main floor plan is an open concept with the living, dining and kitchen areas all open to each other. The laundry easily accommodates a stacking washer/dryer and mechanical systems necessary for the comfort of the WelcomeHome.
Lower Priced Elsewhere?
Question : Aren't pre-fabricated homes and emergency homes lower priced if those are made in China?
Answer : No. The cost of shipping the pre-fabricated homes to the U.S. adds too much expenses. It usually compensates for the added cost of American labor when the home is built in the U.S. or Canada. We also have lower labor cost in Hawaii that's why we leverage our strength here.
In this situation, China made container is not a cheaper option, unless you buy Flat Pack container module (reassemble after landed; more costly) or large quantities of custom made container (at least 8 pieces).

This shipping container home from the so-called Zigloo Domestique project in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada is a residential home created by Keith Dewey. The home is built out of old shipping containers, and the owner chose to paint them with an industrial strength minty-green enamel, commonly found on shipping containers today, in order to maintain the container’s roots in the shipping business.
While the exterior of the home may look a little rugged, due to the protruding containers, the 2,000 square foot interior of the house is quite comfortable and modern. The project cost about $150 per square foot, compared to a similar quality traditional construction project that can cost about $250 per square foot.
